Board Member Biographies

Executive

Ken Flesher is the President of the GO Community Centre Board of Directors as well as the president of an educational software development company (Base Corp. Learning Systems Ltd.) in Edmonton. Ken’s interest in the GO initiative began as a result of his daughter’s participation with the Ortona Gymnastics group. Involved in the project since before incorporation in 2006, Ken chaired the Government Funding Committee and is now heading up the Capital Campaign.
Mark Hughes is the Vice-President of the GO Community Centre Board of Directors. He is the president of a forensic engineering company (Sintra Engineering) in Edmonton. Mark’s interest in the GO initiative was sparked as a result of his love of volleyball and volunteer positions on the Edmonton Volleyball Association board. Involved in the project since 2006, Mark is the chair of the construction committee, charged with the task of bringing resources together to guide the process ahead.
Jennifer Boso-Hudak is the Treasurer of the GO Community Centre Board of Directors. She is the president of a consulting company in Edmonton. Jennifer is the Executive Director of the Ortona Gymnastics Club and her son participated in gymnastics. Involved with the GO Board since December 2007, Jennifer is the chair of the Partners & Participants committee, connecting with stakeholders and future users of the facility.
Lynn Hyska is the Secretary of the GO Community Centre. She is a manager with the Royal Bank of Canada. Lynn’s interest in the GO Community Centre stems from her past involvement with the Edmonton Youth Basketball Association where she has been the treasurer since 2004. Her daughter’s involvement with basketball has also been a driving force behind her involvement.

Members at Large

Robert (Bob) Butlin is past vice-president of the GO Community Centre Board of Directors. A retired provincial government director, he is the current assistant coach of the Concordia Thunder Girls’ Basketball Team. Bob’s interest in basketball spans many decades and his love of the game motivated him to be involved with the GO Centre since well before incorporation in 2006. His committee participation includes the areas of Business Plan, Negotiations, and Government Funding.
David Dorward is the founder and past president of the GO Community Centre Board of Directors and is managing partner at Dorward & Co. Chartered Accountants in south Edmonton. David’s interest in the GO Centre stems from many years coaching his own children in basketball leagues. It was in this capacity where he identified the need for quality, affordable indoor court space in the Capital Region. He has been involved with all facets of this project. His desire to recognize and memorialize the acclaimed Edmonton Commercial Grads Basketball team will be realized once construction of this building is complete in March of 2011.
Terry Gagnon is on the Board of the GO Community Centre and is the Executive Director of Alberta Volleyball. He also serves as the President of the Edmonton Volleyball Centre Society (EVCS) which is the stakeholder group that represents the volleyball community in Edmonton. Terry’s interest in the GO project comes from his CIS and Olympic volleyball history. He has been involved in this project since 2005, lending his experience to the areas of programming and functional design.
Hugh Hoyles is on the Board of the GO Community Centre. In 2004 he joining GO after retiring from many years with the University of Alberta as Director of Campus Recreation. Hugh was a coach for Pandas and Bears volleyball. He was also the Director for Volleyball for the 1976 Olympics. Hugh donates his time to a number of organizations including Edmonton Corporate Challenge. Since 2006 he has lent his expertise to the Government Funding and Business Plan Committees.
Jan Kostek is on the Board of the GO Community Centre. She works with Alberta Health Services – Addictions and Mental Health and recognizes the importance of physical activity for promoting overall good health. She has been involved with the GO Centre since 2006 and sits on the Partners and Participants Committee. The mandate of this group is to connect with stakeholders and future users of the facility.
Andre Lemieux is on the Board of the GO Community Centre and is the president and founder of Omnicon Consultants Ltd., an Edmonton based consulting company. Andre’s interest in this project stems from his involvement with Ortona Gymnastics.
He joined the GO Centre initiative in 2009 and has contributed to the Business Plan Committee.
Rob Lougheed is on the Board of the GO Community Centre. A retired teacher from Sherwood Park, he was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1997 until his retirement in 2008. A former Golden Bear basketball player and school basketball coach, Rob became involved with the GO project in 2008 as a member of the Government Funding committee and as a strong proponent of creating opportunities for those living with disabilities.
